St. Augustine Goes To ABS-CBN’s

“Salamat Dok!”

By: Roger S. Macusi, MD

The AMA-St. Augustine Schools and Colleges of Nursing, in adherence to its social responsibility, have again partnered with the top-rating public-service program of ABS-CBN, “Salamat Dok!”, hosted by veteran broadcast journalist Ms. Cheryl Cosim. This time around, through the mediation of AMA Education System’s Marketing Head, Mr. Ferdinand Sia and St. Augustine’s VP-COO, Mr. Darwin Dominguez, St. Augustine’s teams of doctors and nurses will be giving free medical assistance for two consecutive months --- September and October.

The whole “series” kicked off on September 5 with the College of Nursing of the Makati Campus led by its School Director, Dr. Roger Macusi. The team is composed of General Practitioners Dr. Nicolle Dela Cruz and Dr. Portia Gonzales, and Pediatricians Dr. Connie Sison and Dr. Sunshine Molina. Present also, as nurses, were the Dean of the College of Nursing, Dean Ofelia Hernando, and Clinical Instructors Prof Val Vidad and Prof. Ann Dela Cruz. Nursing students, as part of their holistic education, were also enjoined to take part in the event. During the particular episode, the students were: Mary Rose Dela Cuesta, Jackielyn Ventura, Sandy Domingo, April Layug and Jocelyn Rabago. The College of Nursing in Makati will be seen on the program, again, on October 24.

Medical missions, such as these, are just one of the different community outreach activities that St. Augustine is involved in. Its medical teams regularly visit the depressed sectors of the communities they serve to render free medical assistance, feeding programs, disease-awareness drives, blood-letting, healthcare education, and many other health-related activities. And now, to be able to reach out to a greater number of people, St. Augustine has inked an agreement with Salamat Dok! to serve as its medium in delivering quality healthcare to the financially-challenged for two long months this year.

Every episode, during the whole period of September and October, a different St. Augustine campus would be participating in the worthwhile endeavor. The schedules of the different campuses are as follows: Calamba (Oct. 31), Caloocan (Sept. 13), Cubao (Sept. 26), East Rizal (Sept. 6 & Oct. 25), España (Sept. 20), Lagro (Sept 19), Las Piñas (Sept. 27), Lipa (Oct. 3), Makati (Oct. 4), Malolos (Oct. 10), Mandaluyong (Oct. 11), Parañaque (Oct. 17), Quezon City (Sept. 12 & Oct. 18).
